Wow, this is what I get for staying up til 2 and sleeping til 12:30.. 16 or so responses, all/most of them great. Image

I looked up this Paul McCartney lyric too.
"If we cant be lovers well never be friends."

See, I think she likes me, but I can't be too sure. She gives clues or hints or whatever. Like before I came back to the states she sent me stuff saying "I miss you" or "It's not the same here without you." She likes to mess with my head. My dad called her the "C" word (Not in front of her, thank god) and told me to give up, but I don't want to.

My friends keep telling me to stick with it, as she's from our usual circle of friends anyway, and they said it'd be cool if we got together. My friend Chris tells me to stick with it and that she may "jump on me" one day at a random time.. lol.

I'm gonna see her again on Thrusday. I think it'll be just us.

Oh, and one more thing. She might consider you as a potential husband, given she talks about your family - no matter it's in "negative" context. Bear that in mind. Image Good luck, young man!

Don't be scared. It's not that frightening. Anyway, it's not lethal.Image

All this stuff is so frustrating and painful and confusing and stressful and sleep-depriving and nausea-inducing and....

...such amazing fun!

Good luck Nate - you go on and bag that honey!

Nate - you gotta turn it around in your head. You are looking to her for approval before moving. If you want her, tell her you want a relationship more than "friends" with her. If she doesn't, it is her loss. Then look elsewhere, and decide if you want to keep her as that "just friends" friend. She definately likes head games, one of my major pet peeves.

You will know when you meet the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. It is something you can't force. It just happens. When I went to meet my future parents-in-law I had such strong Deja Vu it was eerie. I knew where to look, who would say what, what was going to happen. We are celebrating 28 years on this Sept. 2!

>>Eventually, you could have a "girlfriend" in the non-Oprah sense.<<

Who does she think she's fooling?

Ellen, Rosie, Oprah....

There's a pattern here.

I like to summarize the situation with easy-to-digest soundbites.

It's a symptom of our times, I'm afraid.

And anyway, I'm not saying anything different from the vast majority of people posting in here, and I was the first response waaaay back 37 posts ago.

Wow, upon first glancing at the subject title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about Kurt Cobain writing "About A Girl" after staying up all night listening to "Meet The Beatles".
And I was all primed to enter the fray and lamely attempt to explain why the Beatles and some of the better bands from the late 70's punk era, and Nirvana, and R.E.M., and etc...are all inter-related due to their willingness to take chances, and push the boundaries of what was (is) considered rock 'n roll.

But, it appears I can save that rant/sermon for another day.

Suffice-to-say I would not be the best one to dole out advice on the subject-at-hand in this thread, as I swore I would NEVER (NEVER!) get married...and, of course, did exactly that in my 38th year. Still going five years later....zzz...zzz...must be a guitar solo happening somewhere...zzz...zzzzzzz...
How much!?!

Hehe sorry, Mick. I couldn't think of anything more special.

If Alan wants to be to the point about the negative then let him.

I can't imagine having something like My Space to try to meet girls when I was 17.

I wonder if it would have worked for me.

Hey Nate, love is a strange and funny thing! Through my high school years I had a painful crush on someone who never really became more than a "friend..." I was hopelessly in love with him, even though he hurt me over and over again, and finally in our first year of college he hurt me so badly that I knew I had to get over him, but didn't think I ever would.... I moved away from my hometown to take a summer resort job, and there I met the guy who would eventually become my husband a couple of years later.... we have now been married for 16 years.

Anyway, be very, very careful about getting too involved with someone who says things to deliberately hurt you, or who says bad things about your family....that will probably only get worse, and it will be harder to get OUT of the relationship when you realize it is causing more pain than it is worth. It is worth waiting for someone who values you for the intelligent, creative, and fun-loving person you are--don't let anyone make you believe you are anything less! Image

Well... to some extent, Alan may be right. I mean, advice from friends is a good thing, but it's your life, not theirs. Mean, in this case (imho) it's better to follow your heart rather than other people's advice. And hey, i'm not advising! Image
(argh. it's 6 am here & we can't sleep, the thunder was so loud it felt a dinosaur was dancing on the roof, and now it's raining bears & elephants...)
