Funny I have the same problem. I would bid on it but I'm spending money on building a new bass rig. I want another 4004C that I can customize.

That IS a very nice example of a 4004 C-I, very similar to mine. (But it's not; mine isn't for sale.) Whoever gets this bass will have a real winner. Man oh man, I wish Mr. Hall would make these available again. My opinion is probably in the minority, but I prefer these strongly over the current II series. The only problem is that the original Cheyennes were totally unfinished. Not good. A generous coating of tung oil should've been applied.

My sincere congratulations to whoever purchases that 4004C-I currently at eBay.

I have both 4004 Cheyenne models and bounce back and forth between my preference. They are both great basses and each has its own tonal character and feel. I'd say the 4004C-I has a more earthy/woody sound while the C-ii has more clarity and presence.

My first attempt at applying the tong oil finish was a disaster. I ended up getting some professional advice on how to do it, and now it's kind of therapeutic for me to refinish it.

Yes, congratulations to whoever ends up the bid winner. I hope it's someone who frequents this forum.

I've always liked them, but the timing was always wrong when one appeared, now it seems that the price is rising more than my excitment. I'd rather have the BT option back personally.

Interesting trend indeed. I've noticed that Ric basses seem to go back and forth as the "hot" item to play. I remember in the late 80's I was the only guy gigging with a 4001 and then White Zombie makes a video with Sean Yesult playing a Ric and the next thing you know they're everywhere and the prices shoot through the roof.
I guess it just takes some people longer to figure things out than others.

It seems to me the current music industry shill job for "new garage rock" with bands like The Strokes etc has as a rule, the bass player of these bands playing a 4001 or 4003 Jetglo.

I bought my 4003 in '86 and immediately set aside my '63 P bass. I got lot's of strange looks for sure and eventually lots of compliments on the sound.

It's funny how most everything goes in cycles. There was a time everyone had a P bass and a J bass could be had for a song. That trend has been reversed and now every monkey's uncle has a J bass and P basses are pretty cheap.

Do you see the trend changing towards Rick basses again? I don't pay much attention to MTV (don't have a television) or anything like that so I am a bit out of touch.

I've been in Egypt for the past 9 months, not a lot of MTV or music stores to say the least. But I did notice before I left there were a couple of garage bands that were using 4003's adorned with a zillion decals to enhance the tone I'm guessing.
