Jeffery, this is a pretty easy task. Get some 240 grit sandpaper at the hardware store and start sanding in even strokes up and down the full length of the neck till, spreading the sandpaper out over your palm, till it's where you want it. The motion is kinda like polishing the neck. Stop regularly to feel it with your bare hand to check your progress.
Jeff - If you're not comfortable with the notion of taking sandpaper to the neck yourself, I highly recommend Dale Fortune. He's doing a project for me as well and has done a lot of projects for other Forum members. Do a search on him and I'm sure you'll find pics of a lot of the projects he's done. There are a lot of threads covering his work under the 'Vibrola' topic. That would be great if you could keep your bass. You can pull it from Ebay on the grounds that there was an "error in the listing."
