Sometimes my band gets stuck on the same bill with nematodes like that. 200 watt Marshalls in a dinky club. Guitars so processed that it's just white noise. Why consider guitar brand at all when the stomp boxes are doing all the work? Syncopated hair-flailing. Hacking away at the worst of the worst decades-dead music. Self-deluded into believing that people not liking their genre of music makes them rebels. Did I opine so delicately as to not get my thoughts across? Let me put it this way. They suck. And so would Rickenbacker if bought by fender. Yes, I own a fender or two.

I'm not knocking Fender (own a J-bass and I'd love to own a good blackface amp) But let's face it - monopolization of industries in which creativity matters is a BAD, BAD thing. Walmartization >>>>> EVIL.

Man, I've been bummed ever since reading that. I may grouse alot at not being able to see a ric to buy, or just grouse for the sake of grousing, but I respect the Rickenbacker company's policies and the quality of it's guitars, and I hope to add to the number of rics I own in future the from the company as it is now. Re: fender buying Ric - say it ain't so, Johnny!

Concerning the link John McKelvy gives in his initial post about the toddler speculating on Fender buying out Rickenbacker: You can read the same type of low level juvenile discourse over at "The Dudepit" 24/7. Morons like butterknucket really do scare the sh*t out of me. Their shallowness is appalling. What's really depressing is to think about how their "tastes" & preferences in musical instruments and amps are what's driving the market. Is it any wonder that quality is becoming more difficult to find?

God (and Rickenbacker) save us from these snot-nosed little rock gods in training!

While I don't precisely enjoy metal, I can hear a good deal of musicality in some of it. Different strokes for different folks

Jackson had a very good reputation *for what they were designed to do* before they were purchased.

I'd rather have a market with a whole bunch of Jackson, PRS, Rick, and Parker-like companies than a world dominated by Rickenbacker (or any other behemoth) alone. . . . diversity makes things special.

John-- Diversity does indeed make things special. It is comforting (in a perverse sense) to have the ****** namebrand guitars & basses out there: they provide a stark and necessary contrast to the character and high quality we enjoy with Rickenbacker.

I'm starting to get tired of the butterknuckets of the world trying to take a perfectly nice Ric and give birth to a Frankenstein guitar. This consists of taking a basic Ric, grafting part of a Fender, part of a Gibson, part of a Charvel (ad nauseam, ad infinitum) and creating their own personal monstrosity. If that really is what they want, then let them buy a Ric and butcher it into whatever the hell they choose. But they shouldn't expect John Hall and Rickenbacker International Corporation to do it for them.

Not going to happen. They (among others) have already tried and I told them quite pointedly where to stick it.

But I do know of two others they have solicited, only one of which was mentioned in this thread.

Of course, there are substantial changes in Fender's ownership as well, which might be an indication of where they're headed:
