I'll come there when you say I can leave with your Jazz Bass, Bob. Image

Rob, I'm sorry about not saying her name sooner, I just wanted to keep it kind of anonymous. Her name is Melissa. She was the one I was with when you called that one time, and the reason I kinda had to hang up quick. Sorry bout that.

Aitch and I have been down in Monterey and Carmel the last two days, at the Concorso Italiano. We have been out of e-mail reach during that time.

I signed on this evening, and there are at least twenty to thirty posts on this topic( and a total of 112!!!)...two days in the bracing peninsula climate have lent new clarity to my senses.

Is this still going on? Why does this thread live?

Nothing personal, Nate, but you are clearly (there's that word again) ga-ga for a girl who is too young and possibly too messed-up to be worth your obsession. You've turned your obsession into everyone's obsession (we love you, buddy!). Frankly, she sounds too lightweight for you and after reading all this dewy-eyed junque, I can tell you (SIX years? so you've had this obsession since she was ten or eleven? I've got a nine year old daughter and I'm going to watch her much closer...)

Anyway, it also says a lot about you...you need to toughen up. You are headed for heartbreak, my friend. I think you are feeding on her on-again, off-again thing, and reading entrails and tea leaves for clues. You need independence. Men are independent (theoretically; at least it's our cultural masculine ideal). You are placing way, way too much credence on the importance of this in your life. And it says loads about how you are going to handle this type of thing in the future, in how you handle this current thing. Prognosis: not good.

You should concentrate on music and let dear, confused Melissa alone, full stop. She will bring no good to you. Mark my words.

You don't have to be sorry, Nate. I understand. I would hang up on a guy if I was with a girl, too. She's probably much more good looking than me, anyway. Image

Yep, good idea. Very good idea. You can take it from me. Image

Nate - it's not that i'm advising or anything, just a thought. I've made tons of wrong decisions in the past, and that hasn't changed much today - everyone makes mistakes, you know. And sometimes my decisions were influenced by other people. What i mean is - sometimes it's tempting to "throw off" responsibility for a certain decision on somebody else, and it gives a possibility to say: "hey, it's not my fault, i've just taken a good advice!" But, as i already mentioned, it's your life and therefore your responsibility. Just a thought.
Good luck to you, and good luck to Melissa as well.

'She will bring no good to you. Mark my words.'

If indeed your words come to pass, Paul, I'm sure Nate will emerge from it a better (young) man and he might even write the next great song.

Ah, I remember being a teenager. And I wouldn't go back at gunpoint!

Good point Paul. But my "obsession" for her was just a generalization. It didn't last the entire 6 years. I've know her for that long, but it was mainly from 6th (When I met her) to 8th grade, then I gave up on her and got a girl that I didn't have to chase. That didn't work out do to geographical problems. I started having feelings for Melissa again a little bit before I moved to NZ and then before I came back, and that has stayed til now.

Sorry to freak you out about your 9 year old, but as you see, I have trouble moving on. Image

We were gonna do something today, and I asked her to tell me what she wanted to do by morning, but she didn't... of course she gets on to tell me after I send her a message saying never mind.. lol.

Blah, I feel like I've been mean to her or something. Like I pressure her into doing stuff with me when she doesn't want to.

I know I'm not very well known around here yet but I would like to chime in with my two cents cause I'm a psych. student (hold the Dr. Phil jokes please) and maybe I can shed a bit of light on the situation. It seems to me that this girl is pretty passive-agressive and I noticed that way back near the start of the thread that Nate mentionned something about how she liked him back but that he had another girlfriend. I think she could possibly be getting back at Nate for ignoring her back then by sometimes ignoring him now and saying mean things...but I haven't met her so it's hard to tell. Nate...if you really want to know if she is attracted to you look for these things when she is with you...if she favors the left side of her body (like uses her left hand even though she is right handed or if she's leaning towards the left) this is due to the "emotional" part of her brain controling this side of her body. Also if she keeps running her fingers through her hair or keeps licking her lips while looking at yours...these can mean she would like to touch you or kiss you. These things aren't 100% but I've read about studies on this matter and they found these to be the "usual" indicaters of attraction. Sorry for the long post.

Long posts are cool to me Matthew. Thanks for the clues. I'll check. I don't know if she's done that stuff. I do know that when I took her to go see Ashlee Simpson back in July she looked at me and smiled for no apparent reason. I do know that she is really really really emotional. Like something small can set her off into crying.

I didn't see her today.. lack of communication.. but maybe tomorrow or a week or so.. not sure though.

She looked at you because she appreciated that you took her there.

Sorry about all these questions, but does she have an older sister that's single? Image

Good point.. sorry, I'm just not used to that kind of stuff.

Sorry, Rob, she's the youngest of 4, and the only girl.
