Amazing Covers by Other Artists
XM Deep Tracks just played "Purple Haze" by Melanie and, get this, "Dirty Deeds" by Lesley Gore. No, that is not a typo! I believe I am a major steep closer to hearing it all.

How about the album that William Shatner (aka Captain James T. Kirk) made. It had instrumental versions of songs by various artist on it and he spoke (not sang) the original lyrics to them. His version of The Beatles' Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was voted worst Beatles cover ever.
-Apologies to those of you who were close to not remembering the existence of that album-

Many of the Beatles cover versions were absolutely killer. "Please Mr. Postman" and "You Really Got A Hold On Me" made the originals look like home recordings. The Beatles really had Motown running scared for awhile. And yet, by their own admission, they were only paying tribute to the music they loved.

If you've heard it, you'd agree. It's actually more like the worst SONG ever. Not just cover. It's truly painful.
I recently found out that Disturbed, a band that I don't really like all that much, covered Genesis' "Land of Confusion". I found the cover, and it's actually really really good. I was very impressed.
As far as "best" covers go . . . my vote also goes with Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower". Also, I really love Yes's cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "America".
