Oh and by the way I greatly appreciate the fact that RIC is trying to insure the highest quality possible - I really do! That still doesn’t help releive my disappointment. Yeah Yeah I know – how disappointed would I be if I waited this long a the head stock split. I don’t know, just an overall bad day!

Im with you Andy, I originaly ordered my 4004II in natural but changed my finish preference to transparent red after seeing photos of the "new"? head design on another Rick website. I called my dealer and even Rickenbacker, but at the time, maybe a transition period, no one could guarentee at the how my rick would be delivered. With or without the walnut wings. So.., not wanting to gamble, I changed the color. I apologize for not mentioning this earlier, but I just learned of your finish choice last week.

Andy,
Best of luck, I hope something can be done to allow you to keep your place in queue should you change your order. 450 days is a very long time to wait as it is.

"no one could guarentee at the how my rick would be delivered."

I have called about the construction of the Cheyenne's before, and couldn't get an answer either. I had two questions, the first being whether it had a walnut back (like the only online photo shown at Bjorn's site) or whether it was a maple/walnut/maple sandwich (like I'd seen on ebay). It appears to be the latter. The second question was about the headstock wings, which was the selling point to me for the natural. No definitive answer on that one either, though it seems pretty clear now that walnut is history.

I don't mean to sound petty, but I guess I'll be looking for a used one with the walnut wings somewhere down the line.

It looks like that changing the finish could complicate things. I can't risk getting out of line and then having to wait for god knows how long. Looks like I'll have to accept the all maple headstock. Maybe it will grow on me. I sure was excited about another bass with walnut wings. I can tell you - I'm not feeling any better about it today.

“The Walnut looks absolutely deplorable with any color whatsoever in the broad section that the headstock presents.”

“I agree that walnut under a colored finish would suck, but on the natural it looks great.”

Personally, I think the walnut looks great under the fireglo finish. Why wouldn't it not look good under the trans. Red!

Just personal taste, I guess. I like the contrast in natural, but don't thikn it would be as nice under a transparent finish.
