It is what it is. I can imagine the RIC guys all sitting around talking about how they would come up with something to appease the howling masses for the 75th without impacting their already busy backlog of C series, COY, and regular production. This is really a brilliant strategic move on their part. If everybody wanted this it would be a big problem, being so limited(did I use that word?) Perhaps Eric could tell us more about how the idea came about?

Just to repeat a post from the "other" 75th anniversary bass thread, for any UK forumites out there:

I've got nowhere with dealers here in the UK, and Rosetti - who to give them their due came back to me very quickly - say they have no info at present; they have asked RIC for it but as yet have received nothing; they do not even know if they will be able to get any.

Over the past 48 hrs I have done all that is possible here in the UK to get a 75th year bass.

The bottom line is that, as yet, I have not been able to order a bass. I think this is a real shame as I think there can't be many more enthusiastic or loyal RIC bass players in the UK than myself.

I know they are made in the US and Mr Hall can sell to whom he wishes, but the UK fan base don't get a look in.

I'm sure Rickenbacker would have done just fine without the Brits but to mention a few names: Chris Squire, The Beatles, The Who, The Jam, Macca, Lemmy, Roger Glover.... hmmmm

Well, I guess it takes a few days for the sales machine to roll out but certainly Rosetti don't seem at all confident. However, who knows, perhaps even now RIC are allocating units for export. Something tells me its a long shot. But, as you say, we Brits have done our bit for the 4000-series in RIC history, so I kind of harbour the hope that some of the edition will get here. One with my name on, of course. Be nice if Rosetti were actually able to take an order though....or put us out of our misery.

Same here in the US guys. The bottom line is that the dealers just don't know how they are going to be allocated yet.

It's a waiting game on all fronts.

The good news (for me) is that I'm not at all tempted to buy one. JH and company have done what they feel is the right thing to do with these instruments, and that's great. I personally would have added checkerboard binding, vintage knobs, a horseshoe, and most importantly, SILVER plastic ala the Glenn Frey models. Just my 2 cents.
