That's my dilemna Jack. I want a new 4003 as a player, so I figured I might as well get one of these, but I anticipated the cost to be below MSRP. I don't want to be scared to play it though.
At least this feeling helps in that I won't be crushed if I can't get one (then I can get a new standard 4003 and another bass too instead!).
I won't worry about it until I get the call that there really is one that I can get.

Steve:
What did you think about it?
Do you know if it comes with a Certificate? I'm really curious about that.
Thanks!

Steve: I'm just going through your pictures and just spotted the "DUMPSTER BASS"! That is a beautiful bass! Is there a story go with that one?
Sigh: A RIC with BEAUTIFUL WOOD........
PS...THANKS FOR THE PICTURES! They're great!

Bob,
Are you serious? Defective?
Now that's a RIC I'd love to see produced! I'd pay MUCHO $$$$$ for a bass like that, in a heartbeat! Slap a HS in that bad boy, and....ok, ok, I'll stop.
John, would you EVER, ever consider making a run of basses with woods like the "Dumpster" bass? The 4003DB....such a pretty bass.....

Umm- I just saw that picture that Steve put up and its very close to the dark burgundyglo that's on my 1973 4001, without the metallic components mixed into the new finish. Alot of people like to refer to this color as "eggplantglo" and one time when I had an eggplant in the house I held it up to the bass and it was an identical match. Steve's right, this type of color is extremely difficult to photograph, in poor lighting it always looks like jetglo. I don't feel so bad missing out on this bass since the 33 year old one I've got comes really close. I'll try to take some pictures of it out in the sun some day so we came compare, it really is a cool color when the light is right.

The finish is a darkish cherry and the gold TRC and pickguard sets it off nicely. Look for pics soon in the Confluence section.
