John Fogerty and Rickenbacker guitars

Post by jonpaul »

I watched John's HD concert (The Long Road Home) on TV tonight and was blown away at how great he sounded (singing and playing). The only thing that I was disappointed in was that he didn't play his (or any) Rickenbacker. I thought for sure he would pull out his old trusty 325, especially since most of the songs he played were originally done with his Rick. He seemed to change guitars after every song, I kept waiting but to no avail. Did he have a fallen out with RIC? It would seem he would be a great RIC endorser. Anybody got any ideas as to what may have happened?

David: If you want to see Fogerty play a Rickenbacker get his Premonition DVD. He plays a fireglo model 1997 that is stunning with regard to look and sound through his Custom amplifier.

I can't be certain, but I don't believe that JF still owns the 325 he had in Creedence.

I'm nearly certain that he doesn't. There is a poster of it from some guitar magazine and I think it names the owner and it's not JF.

Yes, my bad as they say. A Kustom is correct. As penance, here are some photos of Fogerty and some Rickenbackers that he has played.

I'd have to find it again, but I came across a video of CCR on Youtube where Tom Fogerty, not John, was playing a Rick 360.

Not sure which one you mean, Kris, but there were a few videos of Tom with a Rick, like this one, for instance.

While I am reasonably confident that RIC has checked this out, John Fogerty still has a high profile in the music industry and a Signature Model would be a interesting idea.

Ah-ha! That's the pic from the cover of "Goodbye, media man"! Frankly speaking, i have this pic hanging on my wall (copied from the Web & printed on a color printer), the quality is pretty poor so i was wondering for some time if it's a Rick or not. Now i know for sure. Thank you, Peter!

I'd love to see a John Fogerty signature model from RIC.

A Fogerty signature model would be well-deserved and a long time coming. He was a great symbol for the company.

Heck, I'd like to be a great symbol for Ricky, but alas, the recording contracts they aren't a coming.

Sounds like a new series "C"CR model to be considered!
As I stated before the concert I watched was excellent. John provided a lot of energy with-in his performance. His band was also very good, the bass player used a MusicMan, the other guitarist played what looked like Gretsch & Fenders. John's guitars seemed to be Gibson, Fender and some brand I couldn't make out. I agree that RIC should get a signature model for him. The majority of the songs he played were originally performed with a Rick. It'd be great to see him use a 325 again!

This was brought up on the factory forum, and I seem to remember JH saying that John wasn't interested in it.
