Does anyone use the 4003's mute?

i took mine out years ago...i raise the nut on all my fretlesses to give more ..well bite ..with my left hand..it also helps with left hand muting..i mute with my palm or fingers on my right..i have no fretted basses

the mechanical mute needs to be tweaked if you want to use it ... you will probably have to take the whole tailpiece apart ... one problem with the mute is the adhesive on the bottom of the rubber pad sometimes makes it also stick to the wood which renders the mute unmovable ... this can be corrected by trimming the pad so it is not quite as wide ...
another problem is the arch of the metal plate on which the mute pad rests is quite often the wrong radius ... this can be corrected by bending it slightly ...
