You shouldn't have a problem selling that Series II for some big $$$$$. Yes, they can be very heavy. But, oh what a bass! Ever thought of using a bar stool when you play? Nothing wrong with that! I've done it many a time. I have a spinal issue, so it I want to play at all, I have to sit.
Yeah it kind of sucks, but compared to not playing at all, I'll take the latter!
Are all Alembic bass models good?

This is the bass player for Drop Trio, who I got into because their old bass player played a Ric, and somebody mentioned them here. I wrote to this guy, who told me that he replaced the old guy and that he plays an Alembic. I love the sound (lots of clips at www.droptrio.com).

Looks like either an Excel or Orion - have you seen the basses page at the Alembic website? It has silhouettes of the different shapes, and when you click on one it gives the info about that model.
Actually, I don't think that there are that many different pickup configurations, though I haven't really figured it out myself. Mine has the Spoiler electronics, which centers the Q switch which turns the tone control into a low-pass filter. I think some of the other models have separate low-pass filters for each pickup. Have you been to the Alembic Club forum? It might be worth hanging out there for a while - I'm always learning new stuff over there (here too!).

I had a Koa Spoiler for a short time & while I loved the feel of the neck & the way it blended into the body as well as the weight & balance I just didn't care for the tone controls, I could dial in one tone I liked & that was it , it seemed 1-4 were too bassy & 6-10 would be too much treble, 5 was fine , at the time I also had a Wal MkII & it had a wide assortment of tones available , after I sold them I counldn't help but think the Spoiler w/ the Wal electronics would have been great!,
