The coolest guitars at the 75th

Post by sloop_john_b »

There was some incredible stuff floating around at the confluence. I wish I had brought a few of mine, but I decided at the last second not to.

But no worries, there was lots of great stuff to play, from 4002's, to 4005's, to Graham's Fatboys, which were a personal highlight for me and a few others as well - I knew Melibee liked 'em too.

One of the best Ricks I played was Gary's 381JK - the sheer versatitlity of the guitar is remarkable, via a 4 or 5 way rotary knob in place of the 5th knob. Here's me jamming with either Jeff Thomas or Bill Henshell:

I'm playing guitar through Joey Vasco's Rick bass amp, which sounded damn good for guitar as well. Not sure whose basses/Dakota is floating around in the background. But those are the new Rick stand/cases.

The 4002 was a gem.

Joey's 4004 5'ver was a great five string by any standards.

The magic purple bass put me in bass heaven.

There were so many cool guitars there but if I had to pick favorites they would be:

Kenny's Lightshow
Dane's 8 string
Melissa's purple burst
Joey's 4004CII/5s
The Burgandyglo 4005
Paul B's Minkglo 4001
The turq bust 325

There were others that made my heart skip a beat (I am only human after all) but those would be the most memorable to me.

It's hard for me to pick favorites. So many of them looked great. Paul Wilczinski's work looks great in pictures and looks even better in person.
I like Ted's list and I'd add Gary's Blackstar 4003S/5
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

I echo the other choices, but would put the Mink bass at the top of my personal list. And I was suprised no-one played a 5'er during the jam! Joey's RIC bass amp sounded 5 times as large as it was physically. Very capable.

No one mentioned acoustics, but every Rick acoustic I heard this weekend had such clear full tone, and great playability, as reported by those how could. Shame RIC can't churn them out, but after the tour, I understand.

Many great ones there, two off the top of my head would be Paul W's '60 Capri, and Kenny's '67 360/12 O.S....

MANY Ricks to drool over at the Museum of Making Music and JH's display room. The Combo 850 at the museum was stunning.
