Two of the best solo acoustic guitarists I've ever heard, Doyle Dykes and Tommy Emmanuel, are killer harmonic players. They both pepper their compositions with fast harmonic melodies and runs that are mind boggling!
Their technique is to play a chord or melody on the fingerboard with the left hand, and then strike the harmonic for each note exactly mid-way between the fretted note and the bridge (essentially, 12 frets up the neck). Their right hand technique is such that they place the tip of their right index finger above the fret at the mid-way position, and pluck the string one of two ways: 1) upwards with the ring finger or 2) downwards with the thumb. In addition, they will alternate a 'real' note with the harmonics to get super-fast and tasty runs that you would swear was a harp!
If you are not familiar with Doyle or Tommy, please check out some of their solo guitar work. Absolutely awesome!
