Coral Stratocaster?

Post by octagon »

I always thought that all the so called "Coral" Stratocasters were really faded "Fiesta Red" strats but here is a 1996 Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster.Weird:

Let's not confuse it with a real vintage Strat, which in Coral would be rare, indeed.

Later Strats turn up in hundreds of colors never seen in Fender's original custom color palette.

I did once own a Coral '63 Jazzmaster. It's now in Switzerland.

I just found it interesting because the color was similar to my Mustang.I posted this on the Fender Forum and people there said that that strat is Fiesta Red.

The Coral that my JM was painted is a match to '55 Chevy Coral.

Your Mustang looks offhand like a '56 or '57 Lincoln Capri color.

The Fender Forum guys are parroting the "experts". No question that Fiesta Red faded to a coral pink. Of course, that doesn't mean that all Coral Pink Fenders started out as Fiesta Red.

My dad's first new car was a '55 Chevy two-tone, coral and gray. We joke about the fact that he once drove a pink car. He always reminds us that it wasn't pink, it was coral. Whatever...

Over twenty years ago, I owned a museum-quality Coral/Shadow Gray '55 Chevy Nomad wagon. It was loaded with everything but factory air conditioning. I had searched for one in this rare color combo (#827, I believe...) for about six years.

When I decided to sell it in '86, it proved to be a bear to sell. It seems that everyone wanted Gypsy Red/Shoreline Beige, and thought the coral to be too "femme". It was a spectacular looking car, however, and I got lucky--a woman called and paid my asking for the car as a surprise anniversary gift to her husband.

I wonder what his first reaction was?

The car was stolen within six months and never recovered.

Nope--the Buick is much more like Barbie Pink. The '55 Chevy Coral is much richer, with an orange cast compared to the Buick.
