Agreed. It is a very nice gesture by Rickenbacker. Completely unnecessaey to them and their bottom line, really, and done as a favor to us more than anything. While I made a comment about no 12-string being offered, and I still think one would have been great, I understand the explanation as offered and I applaud Rickenbacker for their choice to offer these.

Quite frankly, I'd be happy just to be one of the lucky 300 or so who manage to secure one. Case, certificate, etc. wouldn't matter to me. The color, custom TRC and pickguard make these instruments special enough IMO.

Howard, I'm in total agreement with you on this matter.

Maybe this perspective is relevant: Gi**on did a 100th anniversary issue of various models, 100 units each, in 1994 (there's a Firebird on eBay now). These were so far over the top (IMO) that they had diamonds encrusted on them (on the headstock and elsewhere - nice if you have to cut glass during a gig ...). They also came with a ton of documentation as well as a special case, a diamond ring, etc. The list price varied (obviously) between models, but the eBay listing for the Firebird indicates a $10,000 list price back then. I don't know what the seller is actually wanting for it (it has a reserve), but there is an ES-335 100th Anniversary on Gbase for $3900. Assuming a similar list price for it, it's now worth 40% of the original list price.

Would any of the RIC anniversary issues ever be worth only 40% of the list price? I severely doubt it.

I, for one, would be proud to own one of the RIC 75th issues as offered.

Me too. I would be proud to own one.
I guess my parents always taught me that it's good to hope and dream.. (I guess they really meant that in obtaining a higher paying job, better girlfriend, etc...)
But sometimes it could come across the wrong way.. I guess it's what we do here, we tend to add in our two cents worth of ideas.

Certificate? Fancy case? Nice but not essential. I’m just happy to have managed to get a 4003. There’s enough about the instruments themselves to make them special, but one could always print off a copy of this web page as a little backup:

Rickenbacker News

Should I ever need to claim, I would expect my insurance company to pay up against the value of my instruments without argument. After all they have been quite happily taking premiums based on those valuations. On the two occasions I have had to claim – actually not instruments but fairly obscure & expensive hi-fi items - they have not quibbled about one thing. If there was any deviation from this, I would change my insurers.

I really hope that the odd differing opinion here does not deter Rickenbacker from producing future ‘specials’. The speed at which these sold out says a lot…

I am very happy to be getting a 4003. Thanks RIC for making it possible.

I did ask about the case for the 4003, just because I was interested. The yes or no answer would not affect my gratitude for RIC or my enjoyment of my 75th 4003. The act of asking the question should not be considered to be complaining in my case, and likely most others. I'm just interested in what I'll be getting.

I live in the Boston area, which many US sports fans know is the hub of maniacal sports fans who will pester the sports talk stations with the most minute negative complaints about every aspect of every sport and every player. Still, it's a very small percentage of the fan base and it does not reflect on the total fan base at all. Even that small percentage of fans absolutely love their teams, but they have an odd way of expressing it. At it's worst, it can be entertaining to listen to sometimes but does get a little tiring after awhile. Some members of the teams (players & management) have thicker skin than others who can't take the pressure, but I think that most are grateful to have such an interested fan base with all of the positive and negative aspects that come with it. The stadiums are always packed, as opposed to other cities where nothing is said and the stadiums are less than half-full. Many team members who leave for quieter pastures often comment later how they miss the positive & negative fan involvement.

I think that in other parts of the world there are certainly similar fan bases (the soccer/football fans in Europe are known to be pretty rabid), so I doubt if it's just a USA thing.

There's nothing wrong with a 'wish list'. I'm sure one of the reasons members of the RIC team tune in on us to to measure what customers would like to see in their product. We need to remember that it is just a wish list - nothing more.

We should be able to make our desires known. But let's try to keep concerns/complaints to the place where they're needed: design/manufacturing issues, instrument performance, etc.

Very well put Greg.
If you read my post, I was not moaning, but simply stating my opinion. I am not ungrateful in the least, and if I did not like what RIC made for us I certainly wouldn't have paid top dollar to purchase the 75th 4003.

Thank you Mr. Hall for clarifying your position on selling abroad. Image

Oh, and Relayer4u. Since you are new around here, maybe you should read more carefully before you start calling people an "azz".

The whole thing struck me as if one had ordered a new car and then was complaining that it should have had a turbocharger on it, even though the literature, advertising, and salepeople made no mention of being so equipped.

Bob: I did not notice the post you mention. It has now been edited.

No complaints here, Mr. Hall. In my opinion Ricks are turbocharged to begin with and I can't wait to shift mine into full rock gear.

On a lighter note, I thoroughly enjoyed guessing the colour! Thanks RIC.

On a side note for insurance purposes only, as perceived value is obviously going to be a factor here...

As mentioned previously in this thread, Heritage Insurance offer comprehensive coverage at YOUR agreed value. No need for a dealer or specialist (I thought we WERE the Ric authority!) to try to convince your puzzled broker about your LK, or whatever. Insure it for $20K here and pay the very reasonable premium.

It's the only way to go imo...
