They also did Helter Skelter, though I agree, their version of Dear Prudence is very tasty.

I once put together a cassette tape of all the "White Album" cover versions I could think of, most cleverly calling it the "Off-White Album". Yes, I recall now, friends were very impressed. Didn't return my calls for weeks.

As much of an Aerosmith fan as I am, I really don't like their cover of "Come Together". I don't even know why I don't like it . . . I just don't for some reason. The really bad thing is that the classic rock station where I live never plays the Beatles version; only the Aerosmith version (and I can tell immediately which is which). In fact, now that I think of it, they haven't played much Beatles stuff at all in the past couple of years.

Couldn't agree with you more, Brian. His version of WMGGW is a killer!!

Dean Steliga and I are planning a visit to his pub in Toronto in September. Apparently he plays there regularly, so we might get lucky!

Howard, he plays in a jazz combo there every Sunday afternoon (free) and a rock band every Thursday evening (not free).

I don't particularly care for his music, especially his version of WMGGW.

Bobcat...I agree with you on the Aerosmith cover of "Come Together". I think of them as a very competent band that displays moments of brilliance in their own tunes, but that one's a stinker...for me, it's dude's voice, like a garden rake on a chalkboard...

Please do not get me started on "Dream On"...

Aerosmith does a great cover of Helter Skelter too..I was at one of their shows earlier this year,and they opened with that song..Really set the tone for the evening..

How about the "I Am Sam" soundtrack, which is all covers of Beatles songs (17 in all).

I like "Blackbird" (Sarah McLachlan), "Two of Us" (Aimee Mann & Michael Penn), and "I'm Only Sleeping" (The Vines).

Great movie too.

Also, when I was a Dead Head in my teens, I was fond of Jerry Garcia Band's "Dear Prudence" cover. Now it seems awfully slow to me.

IIRC, Fiona Apple did a nice version of Across the Universe in the soundtrack to the movie Pleasantville.

Me again - going back a few pages - I'm a huge Kate Bush fan. I've never heard her version of 'Smells Like...' Actually, I thought Tori Amos was the one that did the voice/piano version of it. On the Nirvana tip, Sinead O'Connor does a really cool version of 'All Apologies.' I also like Nirvana's version of The Meatpuppets' song which the name of escapes me now. Nirvana also does a pretty hilarious version of a Kiss tune, too, the name of that one I can't remember either, but I've got it on tape somewhere. The Jesus Mary Chain recorded a great version of a Beach Boys tune, too.

One of my all-time favorites is Scrawl's version of "Let it All Hang Out". Also, the Gourds version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" is brilliant--go to Nugs.net to hear it.
