It looks like a refin to me as the binding appears to be painted over.

Ken Swearingen says the seller sold it to someone else even though Ken hit the BIN button. You might want to avoid that seller in the future.

The seller signed his name in the ad as "Godzilla"...anyone else find that moniker strangely familiar when associated with dubiously-described Rickenbackers?

Cross-thread: this bass has already been discussed intensively in another thread:

I don't think I'd want to be the seller to stiff Ken! I don't think it's good for your health.

The time line matches up color wise. I know there was Jetglo V63s, most likely over a bad piece of wood, but I wish they had sprayed a few white just to keep it interesting.

The wood is not bad so much as visually imperfect.

I e-mailed the seller several times telling him it was not a whitestar they were a limited run from 87 etc even sent him the url from that section of this forum where it delineated the white, black and red stars. He kept insisting that several guys from the Ric booth at namm several years ago told him it was one. I told him he must have talked to the wrong guys. Was a kid or wrote like one or could maybe have been a scam artist as I threatened to report him but backed off when I found out he was "young" Actually he was a scammer as I just looked and he has 9 bass related items for sale right now. It was a regular 4003 with V63 pickups, it had binding or so it said in the ad.
