Well, Brian... i don't get it, and am very willin' to try to talk you out of it. But you're the one who decide, whether i like that decision or not. All this rant makes me sad...
Good luck, man!
Gorgeous finish, looks cool with golden pickguard.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
Stupid decision Brian, don't worry about it.
If you have your mind made up, than I hope you don't regret it.
If members can dish it out, members should be able to take it too, and that is meant for everyone who post here. It's just a shame things had to turn this ugly, so why can't we just let this go?
Brian ... don't quit ... if you post here enough times you will eventually post something that John Hall doesn't like ... we should try to be polite try not to get upset about a difference of opinion ... John Hall periodically quits and joins in here ... that is his choice ... we have all learned from his unique point of view ... but his agenda is different than ours ... we want it all our way ... that is the nature of a consumer ... he wants what he sees as best for his company ... sometimes our opinions clash ... also this forum is a good resource for Rickenbacker they can get input from some of their most loyal customers ...
For instance ... some people think I am nuts for converting a perfectly good 4 string Rickenbacker into a 5 string bass ... that doesn't bother me at all ... I used to have the same opinion in the 1990s ...
There are few companies holding "legendary" status which interact with their customers in the fair and supportive way that RIC does. Those who have opined that this Forum is too aligned with RIC in the sense of "keep your criticism away" are missing the point.
I always saw this Forum as a place to go to celebrate the great instruments made by Rickenbacker. With the operative word being the "c" word.
Rickenbacker as a Corporation, has a Customer Service department which functions to handle problems which may crop up in the purchase and ownership of their instruments. As many of you know, this department is personal, personable, and very responsive. Instances of their going out of their way to service a customer have been posted time and again on this Forum. RIC also has an accessible CEO (and family and company employees) who enjoys the banter of his own Forum and this one.
Our personal e-mail addresses may be posted on our "Profile" page, making it a simple matter to interact as members off-Forum.
What am I saying here? Simply that all the outlets for expressing concern or the occasional complaint, are in place and well-defined and -covered.
Then, why would complaints be aired in this Forum, except to stir up others' emotions and get a consensus going in a negative direction? Reminds me of the obligatory "torchbearing villagers" scenes in Frankenstein movies...one guy says, "Let's get 'im!!!" and the next thing we know, there's a stamping of feet for the castle on the hill...
The Internet is the best clearing house for information ever invented by man (or Al), but it also the quickest way to spread rumor, innuendo, misinformation, and dissatisfaction. Were I John Hall, I'd have to have a pretty thick skin, and still my teeth would be ground to nubs from what I could read about my company and products on the Web, much of which is unsubstantiated rumor and speculation, each time I did a search.
I'm here to celebrate. I have few issues with RIC; I see them as my own problematic perceptions, not gospel truth, and am very happy to have found friends, customers, and a lifetime interest maintained--all in one place.
So that, my job, and my family make for a satisfying existence in this wacky and dangerous world. And the discovery and participation in this Forum (and RIC's) have been the keystone in the construct.

A well written post Paul. Since the beginning, the philosophy of this Forum has been to focus on the positive and I consider it should continue in this tradition. I understand and accept that this is a short-coming of this Forum. There are plenty of forums online, however, where you can say whatever you want without restriction. It was never intended that this would be one of them.
Jeff: I appreciate your sage advice. Better to step back than to say something that may compromise friendships and relationships.
I am reminded of the words of Joni Mitchell, "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone."
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Funny I always thought that was said by John Mitchell...
...or Martha...

Y'know for the most part, it's all good. Life is too short.
I have had such a great time meeting people from all points of the globe because of what Rickenbackers mean to all of us, some lasting friendships. It has been a real benefit for me.
I would hope that no one would leave or be banned for whatever the reason....there is so much to learn from being a part of all this. Let's all have a good time.
