4001C64 Machine Heads
Does the 4001C64 come with Rickenbacker stamped on the Machine Heads?

No. They are not the same chrome Schallers as on the 4003. They are nickel-plated reproductions of the actual 60's tuners, complete with smaller bushings. I don't know who makes them, but they work well, look accurate, and don't have any name stamped on them. They're also held on with slot-head screws.

There's friend of mine who owns a beautiful 4001C64S..it is brand new but it is not covered by RIC importer warranty just because he bought it through the bay...well you know what I mean
After a few months the A string tuner keywind started being "loosen" and he could not find a kind of remedy. He can perfectly tune up the string, no problem, but this is not the point of course
He's got a fireglo 4001V63 as well... He told me that the C64S tuning machines are not exactly the same as the V63 because:
- C64S machines have no "Rickenbacker" inscription
- they turn in the opposite way than the ordinary ones, I mean tuning up=clockwise, tuning down=anticlockwise (my 67 4005 and vintage ricks were this way, whilst new 4003 and even my and his V63 work opposite way)
Can you please confirm this? Thanks
I told him to email Mike Smith at rickrus (I guess you know this guy) because I know Mike and the way he works...Mike he sent him the vintage machine for the A-string....
Big surprise it has the Rickenbacker inscription and turns differently (like modern ricks and V63s)... so he's got 3 of a type and 1 of another type now...they look exactly the same except for the inscription and the turning direction.
Pickofthericks has no vintage tuning machines listed in catalogue
rickenbacker boutique is performing annual inventory
Northcoast music shows a C64S headstock whose tuning machines have the inscription...
The music connection catalogue has the replacement set listed as "vintage machine heads" but the picture shows the rickenbacker inscription on it..
italian official importer...well let's talk about the weather LOL
do you happen to know an online shop who may have those "vintage" machines? Otherwise as I suggested him, he could buy the other 3 from Mike and have the whole 4003/V63 set of machines to put on the bass
Thanks for any help

Franceso-
As far as I know, the vintage reproduction tuners on the C64 and C64S have never been available from RIC. I don't know why. I guess its the same deal as the horseshoe pickup. I've heard JH mention that RIC could build more basses and reduce their backlog if they could get more parts from their suppliers. Maybe this is one of those parts.
I hope they'll start selling them soon though.
Brian- I can't say I blame you. I'll bet he could do some serious damage with that cane!
