Shipping Damage
This is a pretty good topic over at the RIC forum. A real eye opener. Take a look:

"Knowledge is Power"
That sums up their intelligence a bit.. I've had a few run-ins with them. Only one went south. I shipped a guy a statue. The guy broke the thing as he opened it without care. Blamed me. Made a UPS claim. Cuz he sent the thing back to me using the post office, UPS wouldn't look at the claim again. I tried to explain what the difference was if he sent it back to me using another carrier.. They said it wasn't their policy... I try to use either Fedx or USPS.

I came home from work one day to find my Rickenbacker sitting on the front porch. QED
Every time I know something is coming UPS, I feel like I am am part of a Banachek rerun.
Ok, just one more. I sent a parcel UPS to a company in the US. The driver decided, on his own, not to deliver it to the company and proceeded to send it back. The only thing that saved me was the receiving company's efforts and the notice put online which I saw by using the tracking number.

I've had a few problems with UPS.
I had a 2005 4003 arrive with a smashed case. UPS took the claim, picked up the case and refunded the seller. The seller however, ordered me a BRAND NEW case from MUSIC123 and had it shipped FEDEX to my door BEFORE he even had his cash back! The bass didn't have a mark on it which I thought was amazing.
I ONLY use FEDEX for my shipping.

I guess that is old school Gerald. The "stop and drop" philosophy seems to have taken over.

Like everyone else the drivers are under pressure and have their delivery rate measured so instead of wasting all that time getting out, pulling the box, walking to the front door, ringing the bell, waiting, being cordial and saying things like "Hi" and "Please sign here" and "Thanks" and "Have a nice day" it's just "Screw this, man, I'm dumping this thing and blowing outta here!"
Next year they won't even stop, they'll just reach behind them and toss it out the window as they drive by. UPS will call that "Super-Duper Delivery, the fastest possible delivery for your packages!!!"
And charge you extra.

Listen to that sustain!

I think it's just who you delivers your package. The regular UPS guy, I would say was in his late 40s. He's been doing the route for 5 years. This new guy, looks to be in his 20s, just drops stuff off and leaves. I remember I got one of those Pete Townshend Les Paul's a few months back and the guy just left it there. I came home at 6pm and it was out on the front steps- Big box that says GIBSON on it.... Ripe for a drive by snatching...

This is odd....I have used UPS almost exclusively and have had no problems...so far.
I've used FedEx a few times with no problems either...maybe 10% FedEx. (I would probably use them more, but they named the Washington Redskins field "FedEx Field"....

Gary @NCM ships via DHL. Now I've heard horror stories about DHL, but they are the only courier that has ever delivered to me earlier than they state. How many can say that?

I spent 5 years working for FedEx as a courier. We were really careful with packages no matter what. Given the huge volumes of material all courier companies deal with and the speed at which things move its a miracle more stuff doesn't get messed up. I think courier companies and other shipping companies make a real nightmare of their claims systems simply to deter claims. I never dealt with a FedEx claim so I can't comment. Lastly, I've had 2 deliveries from The Music Zoo via UPS and had no problems at all.
Not sure about how the drivers are employed at UPS and DHL. I do know that if you are a contracted FedX driver and you lost a package, the driver is responsible. These guys that are doing the "stop and drop" are probably straight employees of FedX. I think if you never had a delivery problem with UPS, give thanks, cuz when you start initiating claims for damages you know they caused, then it gets hairy....
One time I went to the UPS store and had a CD box set boxed and shipped. The box got dented so I filed a claim. They denied the claim because they said it was improperly packed with packing peanuts. I, being irate, advised them that their store packed it!!! After three weeks- I got re-imbursed...
