A low E on a regular bass is approximately 40 hz, low B is 32hz and octave down would be 20 hz, the bottom threshold of hearing in a person with perfect hearing. That thing would be impossible to play, would take two people, one to pluck and the other to fret it.

I believe they must've used wire rope for the strings...
