So I went and played the 1996 today. The 660 wasn't around and I didn't wanna ask them to drag it out when I had no intentions of playing the thing. Maybe Thursday when I go back to pick up my new 1996. Image

The color is definitley "warm". The burst is extremely subtle. I'd say this finish needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. I've seen it look different in nearly every picture, and then different yet in person.

As much as folks try to explain Ric's production schedule...I am still stumped.
The 660 that started this thread HAD TO be ordered a year after my 660BBR (ordered 1/23/05). How could it come out of the factory before mine?

Marc, I can relate to your long-standing anticipation (frustration?). Perhaps it's just that, as they do with building only certain models at a time, they do only certain finishes at a given time. If it's any consolation, I didn't see a single BBR in the entire factory when I was there.

You've had a long wait, but your 660 -must- be really close to delivery.

Krick, WOW! (*drool*)

I am hoping one of Jerry's Ricks will be mine someday.

C'mon Jerry, you don't need two of those!

I agree you need to see the AFG on these 1996s in person. It's definately different than the one Kevin shows from NAMM (and owns! Yikes!! ;-)/

But everytime I look down at this guitar and see the fire and wood, I'm smitten.

Going back to an earlier post, here are the three 1996 AFG models from another angle. The top and center ones have consecutive serial numbers from October 2005. The 1996 AFG in the center is the one that was actually displayed at NAMM.
Image
The bottom one has a May 2006 serial number but my dealer received it in late August. You can also see the difference in the shading on the edges in this photo.
