all of the 2000 series basses are the same scale as a 4001/4003 ... the 3000 is short scale the 3001 is also the same as a 4001/4003 ...

Kind of a dumb question, but for string purposes, what is the official scale of the 4001/4003? Is it regular or long scale???

I think regular would be....34" = long scale.

The only production Rickenbacker bass that was short scale is the model 3000 (but not the 3001 which was long scale).

Rickenbacker did make a few short scale 4001s in the '70s.

John, I've heard that and have yet to actually come across one. Certainly not a production feature, however.

I believe 32" and less is short scale and 33" and higher is long scale ...

some 5 string basses are 35" and some 12 string basses are 35" as well ...

Whats the proper way to measure scale??

From the end of the tailpiece to the nut?

Or from where the strings break over the bridge saddles to the nut??

Nut to 12th fret X 2 = scale length.
