Phaser or Flanger for Swooshie McGuinn Tone?

I was wondering what sort of pedal best nails the tone McGuinn used on the lead break to "Wasn't Born to Follow" and other songs. I'm guessing that he used reel flanging in the studio.
I was messing around with an old Mutron Phaser II last night but it wasn't getting it. Maybe an MXR Phase 90? Other suggestions?

I was working up WBTF for the band I was in last summer...and came *close*...at least to my ears... using an MRX phase 90 and an ibanez fuzz...not an overdrive...you need the dentist drill fuzz...I suspect that there maybe better fuzz boxes...theres been a discussion of fuzz boxes on the Clarence White forum...but the fuzz-phase shifter combo should get you close...

"reel flanging in the studio". Ah, those were the days. I mentioned to the engineer on my upcoming opus that I wanted to take the vocal track I'd just done, flip the tape over, bounce it to another track adding heavy reverb, so when all was said and done, the vocal would have the reverb preceeding the lyric. He grimmaced and said when we mix in protools, we can just punch a button and get it. Same with flanging. Pro tools. schmoe tools. Gimme some truth!
