this is (Rick) Barry Carlos' 4004 that I just converted ... it has toaster pickups and stacked knobs ... it looks like hb1 pickups but they are toaster pickups with hb1 covers ...

Barry had the toasters and the stacked knobs put in before I got it ... I added the 5th string ... I was surprised to see how good the toasters sounded ... I expected it would have a dinky sound ... but it was pretty good ... I still prefer the hb1 pickups in a 4004 especially for the bridge position ...

Barry the bass is shipped ... you should get it about next tuesday ... I set the action a little higher because some people don't like it as low as I do ... but you can lower it as desired ... I like a little fret buzz ...

The 4004 makes a nice 5 string bass ... the neck is plenty wide enough ...

Also this 4004 was a real nice instrument ... the walnut headwings are so cool ... why did Ric ever make a instruments without walnut headwings?

actually Rickenbacker did most of the work ... I just modified it ... I am surprised how much I like the gold trim and black plastic on the fireglo 4004 ...

Great job- Me and Barry have been using the dual toasters for a while now and I really like the clarity in the sound plus everything else that you would expect is there also. I'm so blown away by how good a 4004 works as a five string that I'm not even thinking about 4003's now, I can see a couple more 4004's in my future.
