Here are the details:
1965 Hofner 500/1 Beatle Violin Bass - Pot marked 115, so it was manufactured the 11th week of 1965 (March 1965). This Hofner 500/1 "Beatle Bass" was made popular by Paul McCartney. Violin shaped acoustic / electric bass guitar; Brown sunburst finish; “staple” humbucking pick-ups; trapeze tailpiece; floating ebony wood bridge with slots for harmonic adjustment of fret-wire saddle pieces; double bound body & neck; Original frets & tuners; Both knobs missing original gold teacups but I will add two reissue knobs to the sale, which I never replaced. The condition is quite nice and clean (SEE PHOTOS) and one of the better original presentations! Finish has some usual scrapes and scratches for a 41 year old instrument. Neck has never been reset nor needs to be reset. One of the easiest playing basses I have in my collection with perfect low action! Equipped with new Pyramid Strings; Original celluloid pearl pick-guard; nickel plated hardware; hard-shell violin fitted case. Excellent plus condition!
There is no visual evidence of a neck break, crack or glue stretching! What you see on the back of the neck and the two lower sides of the headstock is a hanger repair, which at one time ate the nitro-cellulose from the original finish in that particular area. Years ago, someone applied a touch up finish that caused it to age in this dark color. The evidence of the age of the touch up is in the checking, perhaps from the 1960s.
