NYC area luthier/wiz

Post by wwittman »

Anyone recommend a luthier/Rick wiz in the NYC area who REALLY knows Rickenbackers?

a) i'd like my 360-12 generally fixed up and set up (the usual neck angle nonsense)..
b) Roger Sadowsky (who works on my other bass guitars) refuses to work on Rickenbackers... so I need my 4001 set up as well (much less radical issues though)

anybody have a genius to mention?
thanks

Matt Brewster at 30th St. Guitars is very knowledgable about Rics. Rick Kelly at Carmine St. Guitars is also quite good.

Vinny @ Alex's on 7 Av (around the corner from Alex's retail shop) did good work for my 480 about 18 months ago.

William, any reason (other than being backed up)? Just curious.

All he would say was "sorry, I don't work on Rickenbackers" and declined to elaborate.
had nothing to do with how busy he was, he did other work for me at the same time.

He doesn't work on Gretsch's either.

I got the same reply from Sadowsky as well.

With him being in Brooklyn, it's kind of ironic that he won't touch a Gretsch.

Also, anyone notice Dan Erlewine's book? How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great! contains no information on Rickenbackers. He sidestepped their existence.
