Yeah, you have to realize the whole hand was that much larger too - his outlined mine. I just wish I had the knowledge and dexterity behind those hands!
Thin neck years ??

You can always just twist a wire lead to bridge the cap. Use thin solid core wire & carefully twist fairly tightly with needle nose pliers around both cap leads. Totally reversible.
No soldering required (I hate soldering!).
Works great, I did it on my 4080 (no mods for her). When I got her I plugged her in I thought: "Hmmm... not bad"
After the cap was bypassed, it was thunderous & punchy as hell.

I alway thought that I had very small hands for a bass player, now I know for sure my hand measures only 7 1/4". Right from day one I had to 'invent' my own ways of getting around the finger board. Quite a bit of sliding around, but that has become my own style and when I recently owned a short scale 3000 for a while I hated it...!

Bob- my hand size is exactly the same as yours and that explains why I like the early 73 4001 thin necks so much. That is also why I have found that using a 4004 as a five string is the best of both worlds as you get a much more compact instrument that is as manageable as a four string.

Mine is 7 & 3/8ths, no wonder I can't get my hand round the big necks! But saying that, I still can't get all my fingers in on a Ric 12 string neck either!
