MAHOGANY BURST COMSTOCK

Post by jingle_jangle »

I wanted to try out a new color on a Comstock 6. Something that looked like one of those beautiful old orchestra guitars. But they were always archtops...then I thought about some of the old cowboy guitars I've seen, and some of them were this color, too. (Of course, they were usually plywood, and this is anything but.)

This is the Comstock after its first day of clearcoating. It does have ambered clearcoat, to give it that nice ivory cast to the binding. Now it's sand, clearcoat, etc. until it's glass-smooth. Then the fun of buffing, assembly, stringing her up, and so on.

Then comes the dilemma: Do I play Gershwin or Gene Autry?

I haven't decided yet whether I'll keep this one, or offer it up for sale, BTW.

Interesting! Isn't one of your 325's a similar color?

My 325 is ambered old Autumnglo. It's not as red; a good bit browner. I'll have to take some pics of the two of them next to each other.

That looks like it would work pretty well for the one I wanted to do in "Rootbeer-burst"

Gershwin or Gene Autry?

Yes.

And don't forget Charlie Christian.

Oooooh, that's lovely, Paul! Really makes the checkered binding stand out on the headstock.

But I still wanna see one in Aquaglo.... Image

Ummmmm, never mind, I just checked the next thread, and I think I'm in love.... WOW!!!!!

Ideal for Gene A to do Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on. Would look good with a Santa suit, too.

Stunning color, & the fade is perfect!

That's a quart paint can lid in the soundhole, I believe! Who would've thought it'd fit that well for masking! Very clever.

I think some Gene Autry paraphrasing would be in order on this one.

"That checker-bound headstock, of mine..."
