I had a bass student who was left handed, that forced herself to learn guitar and bass right handed because she knew she didn't have the readily available choice of instruments that rightys have.
She became an excellent player.

"I had a bass student who was left handed, that forced herself to learn guitar and bass right handed"

Ever seen a lefty violinist, cellist or upright bass player? Or a lefty piano with the higher notes on the left side?
