That's Ken's bass. He refinished it last year. Ken was a contributor to this forum when he refinished it. At first he was dissapointed with the finish color, then everyone chimed in on how much they liked it.

Well, they certainly don't sound like the reissues or a hi-gain. If like that subtle tone/timbre then you like original horseshoes. If you want out and out loud the modern pick ups are the way to go.

I keep saying I don't like Monty, but I've seen so many Montys I do like it's getting ridiculous...this was always a really nice bass.

I don't understand the love affair with them either. I do think they sound good but can't stand how they are right in the middle of the playing field. I like having the full pallet of sound and feel available you can get by moving your hand from the bridge all the way to the neck. I like people that tell it the way it is (whether I agree that it is the way it is or not, haha!)

Speaking of 8 stringers, in a couple of hours I'll be checking out a used Fireglo 4008. All I know is that the owner has been trying to sell it locally for about three years. I hasten to add that no matter how enticing this beauty is, though, I'm not buying any instruments right now, meaning the Rick is available should any of you decide to have a go at it (her?). More news around midnight local time (it's 4:17 p.m. local time as I'm posting this message). Cheers.
