7342 and 7341 Potentiaometer values?

Post by edski »

I can find 7343 on the RIC site, 330 kohm potentiometer. What are the values for the 41 and 42 versions?

Thanks.

Ed, it sounds like you're giving us the date code for the pots...in many cases (but not all) the value will be stamped on the housing as well... i.e. 250k, 500k etc...

Where are you looking on the site?

RIC part numbers 07341 and 07342 are both 500k pots. They're used in the 370 and 370/12. I'm just guessing, but I think that one would be audio taper (logarithmic) and the other linear taper, but I don't know which would be which.

Rickenbacker quite often uses 250k ohm volume pots and 500k ohm tone pots with single coil pickups ...

Okay, those are part numbers...makes sense to me now. I was thinking he was looking at pots made in the 41st week of 1973, LOL...

All of the pots in my basses are the same part number and were purchased new from RIC or its dealers. They must be 250K replacement pots because they spec out at around 200K. Not very precise.

I found putting 250k ohm tone pots on a 4001 made it sound a little warmer ... I repaired a 4001 for Steve Cooper ... the wiring was all messed up and it needed a neck pickup ... so I put in a neck toaster and wired it up with all 250k ohm pots and it sounded great ... for the hb1 pickups the 500k ohm volume and tone pots work better in most cases ...

I sometimes use stewmac pots or carvin pots ...

I have an HB1 in every bass I have and they sound great even though I used RIC 250K(200K) pots.

I need to step in here and correct some serious misinformation.

SKUs 07341 and 07342 are retired components, both replaced by 07343. 330K pots have been our universal standard for some time now, used in all models except where vintage accuracy requires something else.

We haven't used 250K and 500K pots together in standard production for at least a decade.

Hmmm...well, all of the pots in all of my Ricky basses were purchased new from RIC sources and had the same 07341 part number. This was within the last five years and as recently as a year ago. The newest ones in my 8 string Ricky specced out in the high 190K's, so the assumption was that they were 250K in the catalog. The person testing my components is a very well known local guitarist/tech who also wired the instrument.

Was looking at the schematic for a 3001. Thanks for the info Mr Hall! Image

For education, were the pots in the 3001 circuit a mix of linear and audio tapers? Thanks!

hmmm I didn't know they switched to using all 250k ohm pots on the 4003 ... but I agree it is a good idea ... what fooled me is the schematic on the Ric web site shows the 4003 using 500k tone pots ...

Jeff you might know the answer as far as I care to know regarding the 3001. Are there any differences between the pots or are they all the same?

Thanks. Image
