Project anyone?

The only time a bass player gets noticed is when he stops playing.

That is a sad tale and a very sad bass. My heart really goes out to the guy.

Who knows? Bridge, TRC, Tuners, maybe even the whole thing. It's a big undertaking for only the very experienced hobbiest. 300-400 bucks max!

I say take it the way it is now and hang it on the wall at some place like a hard rock cafe or some place that has live music ... with a plaque that says "Katrina survivor"

The poor thing must smell terrible.

So...this guy thought that if he glued the body wings back on he'd have a nice relic Rick?

"I just noticed it says on the truss rod cover Model 4001, so it's not a 4003"

Is it just me or does anyone else hear alarm bells go off when the owner says he realizes the bass is actually a 4001 not a 4003? How many of you are unsure if your bass is really a 4001 or a 4003?

There were lots of terrible things going on in that part of the world during the storm, not all of them the fault of Mother Nature. I don't mean to make any unsubstantiated accusations, but the bass isn't the only thing about this that smells a little funny to me. Even if the seller had bought this post-Katrina with the intent of fixing it up, he would surely check what model it was.

When I bought one of my 4001's, the buyer thought is was a 4003 because it was stereo. It also said 4001 on the TRC. The average person doesn't know Ric's like we do here.
Still, I don't think I'd touch that one no matter.

I bet 90% of guitar store owners in my area don't know what a "4003" is!

I do see Fred's point. It's unusual to miss the 4001 - 4003 difference, but then again, I'm a freak. So anything's possible about it's acquisition given the circumstances. Regardless of all the above, it's got priceless vibe. When I looked closely at the pics, the way the paint is lifted & cracked, it reminds me of the late Stevie Ray's main axe.
