Congrats, Jason! As others stated, this is a new era in you and your wife's journey. It is a wondrous adventure that passes too quickly - firmly embed! My 3 are now grown and gone, and I miss them like I'd miss my right arm. Kids are great!

Let me echo all the nice sentiments expressed here.

My 2 1/2 year old son loves it when I bring out either of my Rickenbacker's...and yes, I allow him to strum them. Gotta learn early!

Geesh, why didn't my Dad buy a Rickenbacker back when I was 2 1/2? (which would have been February 1966).

My (nearly) 4 year old loves music and sings along with Strawberry Fields Forever, requests my CD in the car, and dances at our gigs (when not at an over 21 venue).

It's never too young to start brainwashing them!

Never talk baby talk to them - you want them to learn correctly. And teaching English - you'll find out just how mixed up it it!

Best advice; remember they never asked to be born, so it is now your turn to carry the load as your parents did when you were young. Appeal to a sense of fair play when they whine or complain or become uncooperative - you're all in it together. And when they get whiney and ornery, they are either hungry or tired. Sometimes both. Goes for wives, too!

Jason - belated congrats to you all. Enjoy him, as they grow up fast (sounds cliché but it is sooo true). What Sheena said plus one observation I've made over the years. If invited into his world (and you will be for a while at least) go there willingly and often. It is an unbelievable place – it will knock your socks off!

If the musical tools are provided they will respond. I have never met a child that isn’t into banging on a piano, drum or guitar or pots and pans whatever…. Seems to be almost a universal thing… much to many parent’s chagrin.

Congrats, Jason! One of these posts reminds me of some Marilyn vos Savant advice (world's highest IQ) If a child ever complains they are not responsible for their actions because they did not ask to be born, ask them for the name of one person who did!
