Question about 4001CS

Post by rickengrowl »

Hi,
The Rick fever stroke me again, and I have found a 4001CS for sale. If things work out fine, I should make the deal with the guy within a week.
This 4001CS (dated 1991) still has the original strings, and I'd like to know the exact gauge and type of strings that were mounted on this model.
Thanks in advance,
All the best,
JL

They should be the standard strings Ric uses on all their 4003 4 string basses.

Rickenbacker round wound nickel, bass, 45/55/75/105

I have the same set on my '98 V63. Awesome strings!!! I always used Rotos until I played these. Now these are #1.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but the seller told me the E-string was very heavey, and looked like a 105 or even 110... But he is used to playing 100...
Thanks again,

Those original Ric strings are perfectly suited for the basses, sound great and feel great and last a long time, I play flats usually, but if I want round wounds I use Rics. The E is a .105 but is not too heavy. There is nothing worse than a floppy E string to me.

In getting a 4001CS a few years back, I was upset when I tried to put a set of Rotosounds on the bass when I received it...not knowing Rickenbacker uses their 'own' gauge. I accidentally loosened the nut. Bummer. I should always 'read the directions first!!!'

That 4001CS deal finally won't be done. The guy said he wanted to increase the price, then he said I had to pickup the bass and he would not ship it. I'd have to drive over 1,000 miles to get this bass, i'm not 4001CS-nut enough for that.
And finally, just a few hours ago, the guy emailed me to say he did not want to sell this bass anymore...
I have another RIC on the way... something very classical but awesome and no fuss with the seller. But shhhhhhh... I'll post pics when I get it.

Sorry to hear that. I really hate it when deals go sour, so I know how you feel. The CS is really overpriced nowadays, people are taking advantage of the availability. You could try to find a 4001v63, much less expensive than the CS and pretty much the same bass. I have one and I love it! Good luck with your new RIC.

No problem, Dan. I won't commit suicide for a 4001CS I missed Image
There's no bass i'd drive 1,000 miles for.
The transaction for the purchase of my new Rickenbacker is about to be completed (just time for the seller to go pick up the money at his local Western Union office).
I believe I'll have the bass by the end of this week.
Anyway, as soon as I get it, I'll post pics.
All the best,
