A song from me...

There is a thread in 'Rampant Recording' that asks the question to 'Show us your Studio' which was started by Atremain (Alisha) where I first posted a link to this song that didn't work so well (you should go to that thread and 'show us your studio

). I have since simplified the process by coming out of my coma and doing the link correctly. This is my first time at attempting a multi-track recording so it is not perfect but, I think I like it that way. It is also an original song of the jazz genre. I like jazz a lot.

Unfortunately, it has no Ric content but, it does have Beatle content by virtue of using a 6119HT'62 so not all is lost. Anyway, Here is the song 'Summers End'...

At about 01:20 in and 04:20 in some appealing action. Work on over all levels and tone variations. Overall good quality considering first attempt…

Tom, thanks for the critique. The levels as played on a computer speaker system may not be as appealing as it might be, being played on a home stereo system. In other words, it just sounds better on a home stereo. If you are able, why not see if that is the case for you. Let me know if there is too much level or not enough for any particular instrument.

Realizing that there is some hum coming from the sound card when I recorded one of the guitars, it seems to disappear as the song goes on. Wasn't able to eliminate it. Again, thanks for listening.

Actually, the sound clip sounds a bit unusual, like - i don't know how to put it better - a puzzle made from the parts which were not combined symmetrically. Interesting effect and atmosphere.

Yeah Michael, I was listening to it with the headphones and PC speakers - not bad but not great. The guitar is up front and there seems to be some play back and forth with drums and the other instrumentation to your lead. But to my tin ear the other instruments don't stand up as well. Dimensionally kinda flat. That was what I was referring to about the levels.

The learning curve for me has been an interesting journey. Just for the record, the instruments being used are two guitars; a Gretsch 6119HT'62 as mentioned above for the lead, a Taylor T5 for the rhythm and a Korg Kontrol 49 midi studio controller for the other instruments which are bongo, cymbal array, stand up bass, Asymetric synth for the tubular bell effect and a Cabasa. Now, I'm not a keyboard player but, I thought that I could figure out some kind of accompaniment for that part of it.
Anyway, what you are saying, Tom, is that adjusting the levels on some of the instruments and moving them forward or back or side to side might make it more stuctured?
Sheena, thanks for your critique. I must say that I don't get a lot of time to read and or contribute to the board as much as I'd like to but, I still consider you and everyone else friends here.

All in all a very interesting and knowledgeable group...

Hi Michael, not structured, more balanced. Give a listen to the submitted pieces on 'Let's Hear you Stuff' thread - took me a better part of a day to do it. As a comparison, that might give you an idea as to what I am talking about. As to how to do it - I don't do alot of that. My guitarist handles the tech aspects - I just tell him what I want/like and he fixes it. You might want to ping folks on Rampant Recording with specific questions. Sorry I can't be more help here.
