1996 truss rod question

Just noticed the TRC on my new 1996 had a gap on the upper side...figured since I was putting news strings on I'd take the TRC off and see what was what. It appears the nut on the upper rod is slightly elevated above the curve of the headstock--it actually nicks the finish on the back of the TRC. Neck seems nice and straight, so....

Anything to worry about? My other Rics, both c58s, have TRCs that seat flush.

Edited to add I found another reference to a similar issue back in Jun. I've got to tell you though, I'm less than enthusiastic about removing truss rods on a new guitar...

I checked mine, don't see anything like that here. For your sake, hope it doesn't require major surgery.

Thanks Jack--from the earlier thread, it appears it may not be major surgery (Paul W recommends a fix in that thread), but it's something I don't feel comfortable trying myself on a brand new guitar. I believe the issue is largely cosmetic, as it doesn't appear to affect playability at all.

Bad on me for not noticing it sooner...just too enamored with playing the guitar I guess

. I've emailed Gary at NC to ask his thoughts; if I have to, I guess I can go the factory service route, but I'd prefer to not have to do that.

Maybe I'm being too A-R...

There was a thread awhile back where a fellow from Great Britain had the similar problem which is not uncommon. This is the advice I gave him to fix his rods.Use a 2 inch C clamp, a small soft Pine block, and a piece of card stock. Place the card stock against the back of the peg head with the Pine block on it, use the stationary end of the C clamp against the T.Rod nut and the screw end against the Pine block. Tighten the clamp slowly till you've bent the tip of the T. Rod down enough to clear the truss rod cover by 1/16th of an inch. You do not have to loosen the truss rods to do this.

Dale, thanks! I saw your earlier thread after I posted...this certainly sounds like a pretty "non-evasive" approach. Sounds like a trip to the hardware store on the way home this evening!
