There is much more to that Ferrari story than meets the eye. Supposedly, it was illegally imported into this country along with another.

I like the fatter 4003 neck and the 4004 neck ... but that is because I like to put 5 strings on my basses ... when I play Fender style basses then I prefer the p-bass neck over the jazz neck because I 4-2-5 my basses ... the 4 string p-bass neck is the perfect neck for me ...

I like the neck on my '06 4003, It fits my hand, but so does my 01 P-bass, my Rich eagle and my homemade bass....it's all good, play..... don't measure.

My two favorite playing RICs are my '72 and my lamented '74 both these have thin necks and are a dream to play. These are the only two basses that have got me into a special zone when playing live. The zone where you just forget about the audience and even foget the bass and you just become one with the instrument, new ideas come into your head and at the same moment one is playing them, this state really goes beyond 'normal' playing and is a place that I sadly only get to on rare occasions.

I am sure the slim neck profile does a lot to help me get into the zone. Than is why I ordered a new 4003, my first brand new RIC since 1974.

I can't believe how thin(front to back) my 05 Laredo's neck is, it's very noticeable when compared to my 03 Cii. It's so thin it makes you forget how wide the fret board is, you know, the one that's perfect for five strings spaced at 15.5 mm's.Image
If my jetglo Laredo(on order) comes and the neck is as thin as this one, I'll be officially converted, no more 4003's for me.

I just purchased my 2nd new one from mike parks at the music connection . com . I think my first one is a July 06 and it has a thin neck profile . I believe that is the first month of the change. My new one will be here next week . I think Mike got that one about the same time as my first one .

Chris, if you talk to the guys at Victor's they will tell you that may be able to work with you if you bring cash. Very reliable dealer, I bought my first 4003 from them last year.

Whether the Rick neck is thin or fat doesn't concern me. What I love about the Rick necks is that they don't have much of a taper from the nut to the 20th fret.

Chris, maybe you'll find a Rick under your Chistmas tree?
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Wafer thin but wide.

Spot on Joey! My '04 4003 seems chunky but right, and easy to play to other people. They always comment on how comfortable it is to play. That's down to the consistency of taper all the way down the neck.
What d'ya mean... the bass is TOO loud!
