Praise & Worship...Pay or Volunteer?

Post by junglejem »

For those of you that play P&W music at various Churches, do you get paid, or do you volunteer? What are your thoughts regarding paid musicians in Church worship services?

some churches can afford a paid band and some can't ... some people like me look at music as fun and not a source of income ...

When I lived back in Maryland I did a church band - volunteered. Wasn't my church... just had fun with the folks available. I just like to play - what can I say.

As long as it's not a regular gig, I do benefits and stuff for free. I just love to play and get into the spirit of things.

There is nothing wrong with having a volunteer band if you can swing it, but a lot of people that do this (I used to) rely on the income to eat, just like pastors/preachers/clergy, etc. Also, if the church needs some lights installed, they might have a member that will do it for free, but they probably have to pay an electrician to come in and do the work... someone who has training and experience.
