Compression

Post by johnallg »

What do you all use for compression on a bass? Playing the 4004Ci Sunday brought home the fact I'll need compression so where do I start?

I've been using a Janglebox on my bass lately and really like the results. In the past, I've used an Alesis 3630, which is now pulling duty as the compressor for my band's PA, and the compressor on my BBE BMax preamp.

I used to use the Alesis 3630, now I use the compressor in my Bass Pod Pro.

I used the blue Boss Compressor/Sustainer pedal for years with decent results.

I like to aggressively attack my strings ... especially when I play fingerstyle ... this type of playing is really helped by compression ... if I have to play without compression then I use a pick ... one of the main reasons I use the bass pod all the time is I like compression all the time ... that is also why I don't use a sans amp ... it has no compression ...

What Bob said. Vintage Ampeg SVT's help a lot, too.

When I use one, I usually use the Demeter Compulator.

I never use compression because every time I do, my bass sound dies horribly.

maybe you should change the settings or try a different compressor ...
