I thought it was one of his Precisions.
For the most part he used Frankenstein for Tommy, a Precision he pieced together on a US tour. Same bass he used on Live at Leeds.

Hi Dave - yes, my 4005 was NOT used on Tommy (shame!) - its aquired a bit of an association because it was used throughout the Beat Club TV "Tommy" special, full of whacky black and white overlay effects, and over several Tommy songs, so its the period film clip most used for that album. John did use it on his first solo albums, if my translation of the Rittor book interview is up to Japanese scratch!!!!! Its on "the seeker" single, though, and there's a few other "mimes" with it from 1969 on bw/colour TV. Plus, its great!!!!!!
