An eBay/PayPal building was bombed last night

***A Message from Bill Cobb: Explosion at eBay’s San Jose Campus***

November 01, 2006 | 08:59AM PST/PT

Last night at approximately 7:30 pm Pacific time, there was an explosion at eBay’s campus on the north side of San Jose, California. I’m relieved to report that nobody was injured and that eBay’s service was not affected. Fortunately, minimal damage was sustained to the one building impacted, and our eBay and PayPal teams are fully operational today.

We’re concerned, of course, about the cause of this incident, and needless to say, eBay is working closely with local and federal law enforcement agents in their investigation.

Sincerely,

Bill Cobb
President
eBay North America

Police say Halloween night explosion at eBay PayPal building not an accident; No injuries
By Associated Press
Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - Updated: 02:55 PM EST

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A Halloween night explosion shattered windows at an eBay building housing offices for the company’s PayPal division, forcing the evacuation of dozens of employees.
PayPal spokeswoman Amanda Pires said Wednesday that the company had not received any threats but declined to comment on the investigation. The blast hit the first floor of the company’s network operations center.
“We believe this is an isolated incident,” she said. “We’re working closely with local authorities. We have everything under control.”
Business was not disrupted, but the complex was closed Wednesday and cordoned off by police tape. About 1,900 eBay and PayPal employees who work in buildings on the campus where the explosion occurred were asked to work from home or at another eBay campus in San Jose, Pires said.
No injuries were reported and no explosive device was found, but investigators determined the blast was deliberately set, Sgt. Nick Muyo said. Police had no suspects.
Investigators from the San Jose police and fire departments, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating.
PayPal, which provides a platform for online payments, is a lucrative division of San Jose-based eBay Inc., generating some $350 million in revenue for the online auction company in the latest quarter.

No politics, guys. Let's nip this one in the bud right now please, before it goes any further. Our gracious moderator has enough to keep him busy, I'm sure.

I'm nipping my comments right here, in deference to Jdog's plea.

Much as I'd love to chime in.

Okay Jared, you are a better man than I.

I'm all over the map about our best being over there. It's very difficult to know where to find the truth. My gut feeling is if anyone knows, it's those brave souls.

Sorry gang, just found the photo a jarring reminder of a sad state of affairs.
I'm just happy to be here.
