Nothing beats a Rickenbacker
Later this month i get a bonus from work and i will be able to get the tailpiece for my 4003 can't wait. I have tried using my original 1964 Hofner violin bass, but after not using it for 8 years it feels so small. So i have borrowed my nephew's Fender jazz bass (a nice bass made in mexico) but again it's not as comfortable or neck friendly as the 4003.Has anyone else felt the same way that once you own/play Rickenbackers that other brands just don't have that Magic that a Rickenbacker has.

I looked for years for a second bass. I tried everything out in every music store I entered. Every time I'd go home afterwards, play my Rick, and breathe a sigh of relief.
Finally it dawned on me...my second bass had to also be a Rick!
But then came my third, and my fourth...and so on...and so on...(!)

I like having a variety of basses in the arsenal to capture different tones. My main basses right now consist of three Mike Lulls in various P-Bass and J-Bass configurations (one's active), an MTD 535, a Pedulla fretless and an Ibanez 6-string. However, I still have my '73 4001, 4001C64 and 4001v63 and may pony up for an AFG 4003 later on. I really prefer 5-string basses, but that Ric sound is too good to ignore.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Well, I just remember something like that happened to me when I bought my Hofner. I've been playing my Rick for long 20 years and was (and is) like an extension of my hands and when I started playing the Hofner, I almost couldn't find the notes and of course felt it like a toy. Nowadays I like it very much, no doubt about it, but there's nothing like my Rick
I've turned into a kind of Dr. Rickenbackernstein, but I'm looking for hints and help
I agree, even though I'm having big issues with my 4003 at the moment and almost hate the thing they are magical instruments. I DO love the way they sound, feel and look. I seem to have sorted the massive neck issues that I've been suffering with but I guess time will tell.
I got my eye on a 70's 4001 for Flatwound use as I had some tapewounds on for a while and love the sound, so yeah, now I need two Rics! The ever ready P-bass has to go to finance it though!!
