360/12 Nut with Wider Spacing

Post by daddyo »

Hi. Can anyone tell me when the switch was made to the nut with wider string spacing (330 nut I believe) on the 360/12? Mine was made in Oct. '05, and I'm curious if I have it, but I'm doubtful. Any comments from those who have replaced their nut with the wider spacing? Seems like the swap would be pretty straight forward.
Thanks.

You probably don't have it. The swap is very straightforward.

I had to shim a bit off the underside so that the new 330 nut was the same depth as the old 360 one.

Does make a big difference afterwards.

Thanks for the replies.
John, How did you remove the original nut? Did you just tap a side with a screwdriver?

Paul, I saw your obviously very knowledgeable advise on this procedure in a different thread, and I'll follow that. I'm a little nervous, understandably, to try this myself, but I'm reasonably sure I can do it. I set up all my guitars myself, but have never changed a nut.
Thanks again.

Get a sharp blade to cut around the nut so that it does not take any finish off your guitar when it comes off!
Remove the TRC & then tap it gently with something like cloth covering the nut & rest of the guitar for protection.

Take your time!

Thanks John. What year is your 360/12? I'm curious because I've read that later models don't have the finish over/around the nut. I'll still carefully score around it though before I give it tap.

I think mine is 2003?

I reckon you could take off a few splinters or finish if you're not careful so it's best to cut around the nut just in case!
