A little 4001 fun

I am waiting for my black/white laminated binding to arrive so the project is stalling a bit right now. The body wings have been filled and covered and have their checkerboard binding applied. This pic shows some of the cool graining. The top needs lots of sanding and cleanup so it does look a bit rough here.

Tonight, I have some progress to report. The wings are on but I have not gotten my lamiated binding yet. It is easier to install with the wings off but waiting was holding up the show. Figured maple gets butchered a bit by surface planers so the finished thickness is best done by sanding. Here is the bass being sanded. The clamp is holding down a piece of neck binding that I knocked off in the process. Ooooops!
Here is is a little further along.

Here is some detail of the upper horn. I have to press the binding a little closer just under the cresting wave.
The lower horn is not quite as figured but still has some good grain.
This is the seam where the filler meets the original wood. The gap there is not a problem because it will be routed there to accept a Rickenbacker tailpiece. The tailpice will hide the transition very nicely.
