You can run filiments at lower than spec voltages, and the tube is probably the first stage and being a mic signal it is -54dB in level so the demands are not great - it really simplifies power supply design and cost.

"This Behringer use of a tube is most suspect to me."

So Behringer bought a load of defective tubes really cheap to fake a circuit?

I wouldn't put it past them, given their past history.

I have a Behringer Shark which performs admirably -though I've only used it a few times. For the price, it delivered in spades.

I'm not defending Behringer, you understand, but aren't we being too hard on them? I repeat--VOX does the same with their Tonelabs and their Valvetronix stuff.

John Allgaier' post says it best. Let's move on.

Thank you Paul. I wasn't defending Behringer per se, but trying to point out the absurdity of the article attack and its concept.

I wholeheartedly agree. It seems like an ignorant, inflammatory post.

Most of my studio equipment is Behringer and I stand by it 100%.

Why doesn't someone just pull the tube to see if the unit still works or not?

That would have been too simple, John! Thanks for the clarity.

I noticed there was no name associated with that "review"...

I've got a mic pre with the same tube. In mine it glows blue. I never took apart the pre, but there must be blue LED's in there somewhere.

I personally prefer a blue glow, if we're going for the "decorator electronics" mode.
