JangleBox Thread - What Happened To It??
Let's just cut to the chase. Since you are following this post John, then I will ask you to post an answer to these questions. Why don't you offer a unit of your own either in the guitar like before or as an effect box or both? With the Rickenbacker name on it I would think it would be a winner. And if JangleBox thing is under your skin then why don't you get one and go through it and get to the bottom of it once and for all?

Hats. That would be cool. In the meantime.
Thank you JH for the tip on the Pod settings. I've jicky-jacked with that a while and the settings you have passed along sound pretty good to me.
What I'd really like to know is how you get that wonderful aroma in the Ric cases. I've had my 360/12 over a year now. The cologne that comes wafting out every time I open the case is heady to say the least! Can you and the crew @ Ric bottle that stuff? Ach. If only my Guilds such a fragrance could have.

It's not my style to make our business affairs public, but I'll try and clear up some issues here.
We haven't "pirated" anything. JangleBox creates a sound we and others like. Our circuit is not the same as the RIC circuit. The IC chip we use is not "proprietary", and in fact we've experimented with several different chips.
When Roger McGuinn contacted me regarding JangleBox, he made a point of saying how much he liked the box and that it would replace his Line6 Pod. He also records with his JangleBoxes. He mentions it on his web site FAQ. I have been huge admirer of Roger for 40+ years, and we are very, very grateful for all the support he's given us. (It's not just JangleBox -- Roger's great about helping others as well: G7 capos, Epiphone Guitars, Pyramid strings, other recording artists, etc).
Here are a couple of interviews where he talks about playing and recording with JangleBox:

As for the Line6 Pod, I have one and do like it for certain things. But I don't think compression is one of its strengths.

Ambrose, the smell is the glue used to attach the plush linings. I recently received an Ameritage case for my 700C. It was made--incredibly well--especially to the dimensions of the Rick jumbo acoustics.
These are really fine cases, distributed nationwide and built like the proverbial tank. The penalty is weight--I haven't weighed mine yet, but I'm gonna say 20 pounds, conservatively, maybe more.
Anyway, I opened this case up for the first time, and--there was that "Rick" smell! And these cases are made in Costa Rica--a long way from Santa Ana!

Paul,
Thanks for the insight. I swear. I had no idea I was hooked on glue sniffing! Just goes to show ya! My wife did ask me one time why I sometimes sit with the case open in my lap with a stupid look on my face and glazed eyes, though. And here I thought it was the Rickenbacker that held my fancy. 2 + 2, eh?
Holy luggage carrier. I just took a peek at the Ameritage site. Those are some serious cases.

Steve:
I wasn't saying you pirated anything and am not taking sides is this dispute. Just saying that I don't approve of pirated stuff whether its software, CD's, musical gear, whatever. I hope you and Mr. Hall settle your issues since you both appear to be interested in making musical equipment for people who really care.

I swear that I could jump on my Ameritage case without damaging the guitar inside. They come with a humidifier compartment in addition to the usual pick/capo/strap compartment under the neck support. There is also a battery-operated thermometer/humidistat so that the environment can be kept as friendly as possible to the instrument.
These are typically discounted by about 25-30% by dealers. I got about $100.00 off their website prices by shopping around a bit.

It would seem that the jangle box is not very good with out a Ric and almost vice vrs with out the box if you want that particular sound. So who ever buys one wants the other. Why not just live and let live.
I like that Ric case smell too Paul as well as the Ric inside. I'd also like to buy a seperate Silver Vintage case some day too for mine. I was going to upgrade my order but I was told that Ric would start all over on my guitar order then so I opted to go ahead with the standard case.
I have heard now that Ric does not sell the vintage case seperate any more. Is that true?

Dan! Hey -- my Tenny loves the JBox, too. I think, though, that the best use of the JBox with higher output pickups (PAFs, perhaps even P90s) is for use as a lead (i.e., clean boost) pedal in normal mode. It really shines in that role, too. Crank the gain knob around to 3/4 (or more) and you actually get a nice touch of crunch. That's my experience, at least, with the '61 SG into the AC50/Weber Alnico 2x12 setup.
