Wasn't this in LA? I remember my brother telling me about this incident.

I think Keef thought the guy was going after Mick. '81 IIRC, not long after John Lennon was murdered.

That show was broadcast live on the old OnTV satellite or cable service. I remember watching it and seeing that incident & thinking "did I just see Keith smash a guy in the face with his tele?"
This appears to be a different camera angle than what was broadcast. It's actually not as clean a shot. The best part is how he goes back to playing like nothing happened.

Makes you think twice about playing a rare instrument at a live show.

Also should make one think twice about bum rushing the stage. A Tele has got to leave a mark.

Thanks Mitch

I wound up to take out an overzealous fan who was after our female lead singer, I had a 12-string Hamer about ready to crush his skull until he backed off.

Didn't Pete Townsend do the same thing to Abbey Hoffman at Woodstock?

That was great. I thought he was brilliant. In fact I would say that was not a bad move at all there Keefie.

Obviously the show had to go on.

The guitarist in my brother's band many years ago had a patented move to eradicate overzealous fans from the stage. He placed the headstock of his guitar between their legs and lifted them up until they went backward. As I recall, this was his greatest musical gift.

I think it was shown on HBO live. Was opening show of their tour, somewhere in Virginia (if I remember correctly). Incident happened near end of show/encore.

Suicide right on the stage!!!!
