Comparison between old and new nut widths..

Post by emjayw »

Here's a picture of my '05 360/12 with the original "old" nut. I just received the "new" wider nut today from RIC. The difference is small, but definitely worth the trouble to do. It'll be switched over next week. After that, I'll switch to the 12 saddle bridge next. MikeImage

Mike, would you do me, and some others over at the Ric forum, a favor and measure the distance between the centerlines of the outermost E strings. Is the new one 1-13/32" and the old 1-11/32"?
Much obliged.

John, those measurements are correct. I know 1/16" doesn't sound like much, but it is a great improvement over the "old" nut. It should make A and D chords much easier without deadening adjoining strings.

Michael, thanks for taking the time to measure. I've been trying to figure out if the nut on my 360/12 made in week 42 of '05 has this nut already installed. Now I know it does for sure.

Does anyone know for sure if 360/12C63's are now shipping with the new nut, or the old one?

As promised, I did the nut exchange today on my '05 360/12 and it has made a world of difference in the playability. Now it feels exactly like my 20-year-old 620/12! If the tight spacing has bothered you, make the switch.

I just got my 05 620/12 and compared it to my 360/12 and the neck seams narrower. I kind of bummed now. I dont think it has the new nut either.
Got to start with one make it a 360/12.

Eric, the necks have not changed. Just the nuts have been redesigned to take into account all of the neck width. Measure the nut on your guitar from outer E string to the other outer E string, and compare to the measurements Daddyo has listed above.

Once again, does anyone know whether the 360/12C63 models are shipping with the new nut?

I have no probs playing the C63. I had an '02 360/12 that was (for me) impossible to play cleanly, and my fingers are not "spatulate" (as Paul W calls them).

I swear my 1996 360/12 has the new nut and I know it has never been changed. I just go an 05 620/12 and it 1/16 narrower.
Got to start with one make it a 360/12.

The RIC boutique will be open again in January, and they have the new nuts.
